One would think that eventually I would feel grown up and act appropriately. That at some point I would no longer dare to do break the rules, crave adventures and fill my spare time with serious literature rather than relishing the search of a new game to grant worthy of a game night.
Well, I’m OLDER now, and I don’t think that point is ever going to come. Frankly, all who really know me are not surprised that when given the choice of how to spend my birthday, it is generally the same requests as my dear friend’s grandson. Our birthdays do fall on the same day and the pictures on social media do often show us in different states celebrating at arcades, mini putt, Disney…
The difference being that my guests have wine versus lemonade.
When I heard about the greatest scavenger hunt the world has ever seen, I was all in! GISHWHES, the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen, is run by Misha Collins each year to bring people worldwide together for fun, camaraderie, and to assist in his charitable efforts.

The hunt lasts one week. There are tasks from a list of over 200 to choose from and they are all allotted different number of points. Some players do it for fun and some are in it to win it. The whole winning team gets a trip to Hawaii with the actor who conceived this and Random acts. We were somewhere in the middle.
Whilst the world was going crazy last week, we were submerged in the creativity, silliness, charity and stepping out of our comfort zones with GISHWHES. I read the reviews about how it was life changing and unforgettable and thought they were embellishing a bit. I can completely contest that for us, it WAS a week we will never forget and went in a blink of an eye. The week was long and at some points arduous, however much like “pain “childbirth, all I remember is the joy.
We made a dress out of orange peels (62 pounds of oranges) and a now weary glue gun, followed a Yeti who was suffering from climate change and we literally couch surfed. In hindsight, much more photo evidence of the process should have taken place, but you are moving so fast to get complete a task to move on to the next. We are in agreement that we are going to continue to complete the tasks we did not get to during the week on the rare empty weekend.
The week was bitter sweet knowing that it was the last GISHWHES. We are pleased to have lived through it at least once and truly will be talking about it for a long long time. This childlike family will be awaiting to hear what Misha Collins beautiful kooky brain has planned next because we are all IN!
